Review of Drive (2011) by Leslie C — 07 Feb 2016
Drive is one of those films that was almost a masterpiece, it was so close.
Gosling was fantastic as the cool and silent driver clad in an iconic scorpion jacket and fingerless gloves. The movie was a B-movie seemingly straight out of the 80s with a magnificent cast (Gosling, Mulligan, Isaac, Cranston, Rose) with exceptional music and interesting direction with a gripping story...that was until about halfway through the film. I was so caught up and fascinated in this man's story until the pawn heist, afterward the movie lost the slow charm and drama it was creating in favor of your average action flick.
What bothers me the most is just how fantastic the first half was! This is a perfect example of an almost masterpiece. It was still great and definitely a classic. One of best films of 2011 for sure.
