Review of Drive (2011) by Dean E — 02 Apr 2016
Refn's take on this story, as his other films, will come off as either boring or awe-inspiring. Its very stylish and I was a big fan of the neo-noire approach. The best part of this film is not the story, but the visual display tossed in with some great performances.
I am a big fan of how Refn makes his action scenes and there were some awesome scenes in this on, particularly the elevator scene. Not many directors can turn brutal violence into art but it happens here.
The elevator scene is fantastic, and for many reasons, is one of the best I have ever seen. Some excellent scenery, camera work, action shots, and cinematography. Something about the way Refn works that makes his films beautiful while seemingly subtle, he has such a calculated approach to his filmmaking, and this is definitely his best film to date.
Gets better with every watch.
