Review of Drive (2011) by Nick K — 15 Apr 2016
Its a film that is essentially the director Nicolas Winding Refn way of saying "Look at my movie its really artistic, look at all these angles I can shoot the film on. The plot is pretty standard and typical for an action film, it is also very slow moving.
The acting is good when there is any being done. The best actor by far was Bryan Cranston because he was probably the only character to have more than a page of dialogue. The film has great acting talent at its disposal but trades it in for fancy camera shots and its 80s nostalgia soundtrack.
The action is very realistic and intense, theres not much of it but its is still very impactful. The thing I hate worst about this movie is Ryan Gosling's random staring at people instead of caring on proper conversations with them it makes scenes very laughable at serious times and is unintentionally funny.
He sets the bar pretty high for social awkwardness. Its not the masterpiece its praised to be but it is still a good film with many good qualities.
