Review of Drinking Buddies (2013) by Bloodmarsh K — 31 Jul 2013
This movie is refreshing! After seeing a slew of really bad Romantic Comedies, this movie is just a real good comedy. I think the best thing about this movie is the dialogue, it's honest and feels real. I could walk outside to a restaurant and overhear conversations that sound like the ones heard in this movie, the acting is that good. Every actor slipped into their roles very well with Jake Johnson being the guy that will always crack a smile and a beer. Olivia Wilde is the girl that's just trying to live life the best way she can. Anna Kendrick is the girl that has plans and will follow though with those plans despite any hiccups along the way. And Ron Livingston plays the man with a great outward appearance and seems reputable, but is really kind of a douchebag.
The movie does start real slow, with the occaisonal joke here and there, but when the ball gets rolling the story is real quick... almost to quick in between scenes. Still, the movie highlights excellent characterization, dialogue, and truth. Ultimately the movie is about how blurry lines can get (especially with alcohol), but the lines are still there.
