Review of Drinking Buddies (2013) by Rinaldo H — 26 Dec 2014
Yes! I thought a pretty exceptional movie about relationships and friendships and sometimes the awkward thing that happens in between. Maybe a little directionless as it's not epic, but a damn solid movie.
First, I love, love, love Wilde. She's great in this as the adorable "buddy" girls. Jake Johnson steals the show. I didn't even realize it was the same guy from the cops movie, but with his beard and all that, he really makes a perfect character in this. Kendrick always good but not against Wilde, and Livingston never ever disappoints.
I think all involved nailed it: we all have our circles. Sometimes out of those circles we see ones we care about with other people and it's uncomfortable. Sometimes stuff between people gets too close and it's uncomfortable. Sometimes it spills over into other parts of life. This movie did little more than capture all that, something we all knew, but they did it so damn well that I'll throw them an 8/10.
