Review of Drinking Buddies (2013) by Scott W — 07 Nov 2015
I've been wanting to see this movie for a long time, and it was not quite what I expected. This is billed as a comedy, but I don't know if I laughed once and I thought it worked better as a drama.
It also had much more of a low-budget feel than what I expected given the cast. But those aren't necessarily complaints. At times it was a bit slow, but I liked most of it. Jake Johnson and Olivia Wilde have great chemistry, and the scenes between the two of them are the best parts of the movie.
Without getting into spoilers, I liked that it felt like it was going in an obvious direction and then went a different way. Sometimes you do have great chemistry with someone but are not meant to be with that person romantically.
It didn't have me the whole way through (the slicing of the hand parts seemed out of place) but it's not a bad way to spend 90 minutes.
