Review of Dressed to Kill (1980) by Elizabeth N — 03 Jan 2013
Brian De Palma's DTK is very low on narrative and more stylistic. The film pays a huge debt to the master of suspence Alfred Hitchcock. This film also got a lot of critcism from copying Hitchcock and degrading the gay community, particularly the transgenders.
Dispite all the heat I found the film particularly good. A fine cast (Michael Caine, Angie Dickinson, Nancy Allen), a nice little premise to the plot, and a twisted ending that leaves one hanging for a crazy loop. There is very little said about the characters which imo is kind of a let down and some of the suspensful scenes is a little to hard to believe but De Palma made the film the way he wanted to and you know what, it's all the more entertaining.
