Let me elaborate a bit, its a proper adults movie made only for the adult audience, its hard to find movies of that genre these days.

Caine was bit of a let down with his cockney stiff upper lipped "grrr" slang often intruding whenever he attempts to play soft.. Regardless of the seedy story line that would've definitely ruffled some feathers back in the early 80's, Brain de palma's stylish visuals and fresh way of story telling followed by the symmetrical screen play - a sequence of scenes repeated again and again in packets as a progression with multiple repetitions completing the movie makes it worth all the money. The storyline twist is an enhanced version of his earlier movies, Sisters and Carrie combined together, like Hitchcock... De Palma doesn't annoy the audience even when he latches on to a crude story line, makes it look beautiful.

Pinodonaggio's background scores were fantastic, he gives life to the movie, coupled with Angie dickinson's mime when she travels down the elevator with some acute expressions and uncertainty over contracting a venereal disease, a.

Mom and her little girl sharing the same lift, some dreamy desperate rubbernecking expressions, followed by a gore murder, its all De Palma touch stamped through out the movie.
