Review of Dressed to Kill (1980) by Charles P — 12 May 2013
When Brian "The Greatest Hack of His Generation" DePalma quits trying to "improve" on Hitchcock, you get "Carrie." When he doesn't, you get this.
I hadn't watched this since it was on HBO when I was a kid, and it was considered "dirty," what with Angie Dickinson's shower scene. Since DePalma is one-upping the master's "Psycho," there are two shower scenes, a cross-dressing killer, a cop who "explains" everything at the end, and the female lead dies in act one. Porn-level acting, super soft focus cinematography, split screen, and a florid, swirling Pino Donaggio score (all DePalma trademarks) make this a jaw-dropping hoot of a movie.
