Review of Dredd (2012) by Austin S — 22 Dec 2013
Dredd is an excellent work of sci-fi action that not only sets a tone but sticks to it. Having never had any interaction with its predecessor, I took on Dredd as a cold viewing. While the cinematography was very nice at some parts, I felt the action scenes may have had some stale, reused shots.
A minor gripe really, the main thing I had issue with while there is much detail in the present aspect of the film, lore and depth seem to be lacking. I feel that there was plenty of opportunity for depth in the universe created.
Plot holes seem to grow just to move the plot along as well. But it's Dredd, a beautiful, action packed, sci-fi brilliance wrapped into 95 minutes. Watch it, have fun and visit a dark gritty world that this film portrays in very interesting and badass ways.
Don't expect anything of the heavy mind though, then again that is also its charm.
