Review of Dredd (2012) by D M — 20 Jul 2018
In the near future most of the US is an irradiated wasteland (think Fallout, but worse) and most people live in the megalopolis which is the conurbation of the eastern seaboard stretching from DC to Boston now known as Mega City One.
In the city, residents are housed in ginormous apartment buildings housing upwards of 50,000 citizens each. The titular Judge (futuristic law enforcement officers who don't bother with jury trials or other frivolities) and his rookie partner enter one of these buildings to investigate a murder only to be trapped inside by the drug lord who asserts dominion over its residents.
Most of the film is an exciting run-and run, a true lesson in ultraviolence. The psychic powers stuff I found to be trite and the acting was barely passable at times, but for an action flick (which I don't typically enjoy) this kept my attention piqued.
