Review of Dredd (2012) by Brandon W — 02 Oct 2014
I knew Dredd was going to be good when it has Alex Garland as the writer. He hasn't wrote bad movies yet, and is one of the authors I know that writes good movies. I was a bit worried that it got some comparisons to The Raid Redemption and I saw that before Dredd.
However, I wasn't too worried and if it's great, I wouldn't careless, and it lived up to my expectations, in fact, even better than what I thought. Dredd is an amazing film, Karl Urban is perfect as Judge Dredd.
Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey holds up the film too and never felt left out. It's got memorable characters and I got to know a bit of Anderson and Judge Dredd. The effects are actually very good which makes it sad that this low budget film has way better effects than the other hollywood films which has like hundred millions of dollars in budget.
The action is amazing to watch, and it's quite a way to kill people in other ways which is awesome. The slo-mo scenes are mesmerizing and are really done well. Maybe there should've been a bit more, but it doesn't bother me, it's pretty much saying that I want a sequel for it.
Speaking of that, why isn't there a Dredd 2? There can be a great franchise born from this, but apparently there wasn't enough money back which really sucks. Hopefully there can be a sequel, but anyway, back to the film.
Pete Travis and Alex Garland really know how to make a great Dredd film. For the comparisons, there's barely any of that surprisingly, I saw like 2 or 3 stuff that's similar to The Raid Redemption.
Even if there's similar stuff in it, Dredd is still an amazing film, and I really can't wait for a sequel, if there's going to be one that is.
