Review of Dream House (2011) by Christina H — 04 Feb 2012
Not quite horror... Maybe a new genre needs to be created. I propose the "Mindful*#k" genre.
The easily predicted, pseudo horror with a giant "wtf?" would fit well in the "Mindf%*k" group.
I will be fair though. I paid 1 dollar to watch this movie so in all fairness and for proportional purposes I will say it was worth forty cents based on a rating to money paid ratio.
Although I believe it belongs in the "Mindfu#&k" genre I can't honestly say I wasn't interested in it. It had its moments. It was well acted. I did find myself drawn to its atmospheric feel. It reminded me of my home town. But like all films in the "Mindf#*k" genre it did shrivel up and die a horrible death in the end. Seriously, smoke inhalation...
I noticed plenty of bad reviews and out of curiousity took a look back to see some of these reviewers actually liked probably, IMO, one of the worst "mindful*%k" movies of all time. Shutter Island. its okay guys. You can come out and admit that the Almighty Martin Scorsese can make crap!! And the soundtrack? Good lord...
I saw people walking out of the theaters like ww2 survivors leaving their seats during the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan. My biggest regret was not leaving with them. But I digress...
I agree its not perfect and all the star power and directing experience couldn't save it in the end but atleast I was interested enough to pause it when I let the dog out. That's more than I can say for a lot of movies I see these "critics" praising.
