Review of Dragonslayer (1981) by Matthew A — 03 Jun 2011
A sorcerer's apprentice (played by Peter MacNicol who's miscast) must battle the last remaining dragon in addition to the King's lottery system, which holds a dark secret. Unusual fantasy adventure yarn is awkward in its attempts at humor, but tells its story well.
Terrific sets, costumes, cinematography, and score raise this above the many bad imitations. Sir Ralph Richardson is sublime as the old wizard, Ulrich.
