Review of Dragonslayer (1981) by Winston P — 15 Jul 2012
Before anyone had heard of Peter Jackson outside of NZ or Harry Potter was a tinkle in JK Rowiing's eye, there was the magical year of 1981. Despite being called one of the worth years for movies in general, it was a pretty good one for Adventure Fantasy.
There was Spielberg's Raiders of the Lost Ark, Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits, John Boorman's Excalibur and oh, did I mention Raiders of the Lost Ark? Anyway, there was also Dragonslayer, a little gem of a film that managed to come and go at my local movie house without much fanfare.
But, I loved it and think it still holds up 31 years later. So, if you're jonesing for a classic tale of fantasy and can't wait until Dec. for part one of Jackson's Hobbit, try Dragonslayer, you may be surprised at how you enjoy it.
