Review of DragonHeart (1996) by Michael Y — 25 Jul 2010

A fantasy tale full of adventure, betrayal, comedy and friendship. Dragonheart is a movie that can be loved by anyone of any age.

Dragonheart is a story that will come to a pleasant surprise to those who have not seen it yet. This movie comes across as an adventure movie for the family, but its depth and emotion makes this movie a lot more mature then it seems. A story about a knight who blames the betrayal of his tutor, who is now an evil king, on a dragon who gave half his heart to save his life. The knight slowly befriends the dragon and remembers the codes of honor that he once believed and left. This movie is a touching movie about friendship, respect and moral honor that makes this movie a wonderful story.

Dennis Quaid plays as the protagonist in the movie. He is a highly likeable character full of strength, wisdom, an very comedical. And being accompanied by Sean Connery makes the two a great pair. (Even though it's just Connery's voice, but his voice is epic anyway) This movie is also a lot dirtier and grittier than one would think. Taking place in medieval times, this movie sertainly does not try to glamourize anything. The enviroment is dirty and the violence is plenty, which in my books is alright.

Though this movie is a tad silly at times, it's the kind of movie that you can watch over and over. This movie has a touching story, wonderful acting, and one of the greatest theme musics ever composed in a movie. This movie is delightful viewing and worth viewing again.
