Review of Drag Me to Hell (2009) by Joey S — 17 Aug 2012
A tongue-in-cheek scary movie in the vein of the Evil Dead movies. It isn't a scary scary movie as much as it is a fun scary movie. In a lot of the more intense scenes, Sam Raimi decides to throw in something hilariously over-the-top to ease the tension.
I feel like this is generally just an excuse people make to defend a movie, but a lot of the people who don't like this movie really don't get it. It's a horror-comedy, not a horror, and some might even argue it leans more towards being a black comedy than it does towards being a horror movie.
If you liked any of the Evil Dead movies or are a fan of scary movies in general, there's a good chance you'll love this movie.
