Review of Drag Me to Hell (2009) by Rocknblues 8 — 30 Apr 2014
Very fun movie. Yes, I know the effects are cheesy if look at in a realistic manner, but it's sort of like the comic book come to life effect. I thought it worked very well for this movie. No, it's not total slapstick like Evil Dead 2, but it's closer to a dark comedy approach. Much closer to the original Evil Dead. It's a well written film with good performances by everyone. And I'm not the biggest Justin Long fan, but even he managed to not annoy me here.
There was a thing or two I didn't like. I thought the scene in the old mansion might have pushed the comedy effect just a bit too far one spot, but it's only brief. I also thought that Raimi gave away the ending in the scene where Allison and Justin Long are driving and she drops the envelope. I have to admit that it sort of spoiled the ending for me. But overall I thought it was a good film. One regret I have is that I didn't go see it in theaters. This film had to be an even bigger blast in front of a packed crowd.
