Review of Dracula Untold (2014) by Dan F — 20 Jan 2015
Luke Evans is a charismatic and capable actor, not unlike Karl Urban. And, not unlike Karl Urban, he can now add to his CV a pretty poor fantasy horror in which he becomes a vampire. Hack and slash editing makes it feel as though an attempt has been made to save a longer, weaker film, and the plot whizzes along so fast it just jumps to conclusions.
At 90 minutes, it should be lean but it just feels like there's so much missing. A concept like 'Dracula Begins' needs a striking filmmaker with an indentity- axDelcToro-in order to make this pointless idea seemnecessary.
Dominic Cooper is at his very worst, lowering the bar yet again, and if this is the first chapter in acpripoaed monster franchise we are indeed in forcan eternity of of darkness, eapecially with 80s style sequel setup.
Simply, this is axfucking hackjob.
