Review of Dracula Untold (2014) by Robert B — 10 Feb 2015

This movie pleasantly surprised me. I expected it to be garbage and to be an easy candidate for one of the worst films of the year, but it wasn't bad. It's not particularly good, but it's enjoyable enough.

It's like a Maleficent-esque retelling of the bad guy story to make them come off as sympathetic, and it's fairly effective. It also has some pretty good action scenes once Vlad gets the bloodlust.

Also, the cast was pretty excellent. I would say that the climactic final fight left something to be desired, such as Vlad not being severely diminished by a bunch of bling before the fight began, but overall the movie wasn't bad.

It's a solid rental, though also something you can easily live without.
