Review of Dr. No (1962) by Alexander D — 07 Jul 2011
A somewhat subdued and humble beginning to the to the James Bond series that is jarring in comparison to the spectacle of the films that followed. It isn't really an action movie, with that really being limited to one car chase and the climax, but it works quite well as a mystery thriller. The villains in this are refreshingly down to earth in their aesthetic and the central scheme while big still feels grounded and less outlandish than many subsequent plots.
However, best part of this is seeing how easily Sean Connery slips into the role and owned it from day one and that even here in an unpolished version of what was to come that his Bond was a force to be reckoned with. Not the best Bond film but certainly solid and definitely worth a look for both fans of the character and casual viewers.
