Review of Dr. No (1962) by Nelson P — 19 Mar 2010
In order for Dr No to be truly appreciated, you have to see it for what it was when first released, it was a ground-breaking, one-of-a-kind, truly inspired film. Despite any poor special effects or slow cars or lack of gadgets, the greatness of this film lies in its being the first kind of film with an anti-hero as its central character.
The plot may be relatively simple and Bond may only be equipped with a Geiger counter and a gun, but this is many peoples' argument for its greatness - Bond is a relatively real spy, unlike any Bond films after, including Goldfinger.
