Review of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941) by Christian S — 12 Feb 2008
This is one of the first horror movies I`ve seen; as a kid hidden behind a sofa in my parent`s livingroom. I was not allowed to see it, but I managed it anyway (lol).
Today I watched the movie at the Capitol theatre in Gothenburg. It was not scary any more, but I have to admire the acting of Ingrid Bergman. She really IS number 1 of all female actresses! It`s because of her I give away 4 points, otherwise the film would have got 3 points from me. I have seen Spencer Tracy acting better in other movies. From beginning Ingrid Bergman was supposed to play the roll of dr. Jekylls girlfriend; but she wanted to play the barmaid. She asked the director Victor Fleming if he could switch her part and Lana Turner`s. Fleming did so; a good choice, I think.
