Review of Downsizing (2017) by Phillip S — 17 Jan 2018
Let me take a guess how this movie was made. Someone had the idea that "what if people were shrunk real small," then wrote a movie around it. "Downsizing" isn't funny, has no emotional weight, the performances feel flat, the special effects somehow seem cheap, the Asian character's accent is the most stereotypical I've seen in a movie in years, it has no subtlety in the themes it discusses, and worst of all it's boring.
Seriously, nothing happens for the first 30 minutes or so, they shrink Damon, then nothing happens again for at least another half hour to 45 minutes. I can't remember the last time a movie bored me so badly, and if I'm lucky I'll never see "Downsizing" again.
