Review of Downhill Racer (1969) by Moss F — 18 Nov 2009
Available on DVD in the US for the first time. DVD has some great documentaries about how the film was made. One key to getting the terrific skiing footage was to have Jalbert ski while holding a camera to get closeup shots of Redford as well as those "you are there" straight ahead pans while going downhill at 70mph.
Roger Ebert said: " it is the best movie ever made about sports, without really being about sports at all." Read his review for more about this, referring to the film's portrayal of the main characters.
