Review of Downfall (2004) by Chalinee B — 17 May 2010
Finally saw it on DVD after a long-time waiting. Yup! ^^.
'Der Untergang' talks about the final days of Adolf Hitler seeing from the perspective of his secretary, Traudl Junge. It is quite well-known after being nominated for Oscar and several other awards.
The film is so realistic, like a documentary perhaps but not in a boring way. It shows the inhuman brutality of Hitler, and in the same time, it also shows how Hitler was just a human being too. Accompanying with brilliant acting and directing, the film becomes very interesting.
After all, 'Der Untergang' also makes me think about the situation in my country right now. How one person could lead so many people to follow him credulously. How violent could one go in order to satisfy own interests. And how weapons can never bring anyone an enduring victory...
