Review of Downfall (1997) by Stephen S — 01 May 2011
At 2.5 hours you would think this would drag on and on but Downfall was very entertaining and moved along quickly. Downfall shows Hitler's last moments in a realistic manner. The story was compiled from several people close to Hitler to form a portrayal of events and actual quotes.
This is not an instance of the history books being re-written it is history as it actually happened. What you see is Hitler losing his mind and power as Berlin falls under attack from Russian forces. You see Hitler for the monster that he is and yet understand why Germany was bound to lose the war.
Unlike the typical war movie that focuses on the heros of war it was an interesting twist to see the villains at their downfall.
