Review of Downfall (1997) by Cailum R — 12 May 2012
A Captivating world war drama through the eyes of the Reich's final members as it follows young female worker Traudi, an assistant ot the Great Adolf Hitler in the final days of his life, with his decreasing mental state and uncontrollable schytsophrenic like condition finally sinking in as he becomes a feeble shadow of his once self.
Bruno Granz plays the befallen leader as shaken trumps about their basement like hideout and acts superbly in what is the finest acted film of 2004. Surprisingly and to its merit, very little actual figthting takes place in the film and it centres more in the drama of it all leading up to the leader commiting suicide and afterwards when the rest of the reich follow in suit.
Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel this is the war film to end all war films, a must see.
