Review of Downfall (1997) by Tero H — 30 Dec 2012
Well directed film that is said to be historically accurate. The movie is an intense description of how Germany of 1940's lost the war against the Russians and the allied and about how its leader lost touch with reality before the end. He would recognize his defeat and would rather imagine that some of his generals would triumph when in reality germany had lost the war.
This movie was shown on finnish tv and I didn't switch the channel until the movie was over.. the war movie was a thrilling although terrible description of the downfall of Nazi germany.
The story described war in realistic terms and also showed the horrors the Nazis were responsible of. The murder of even their own children for an ideal was awful to watch. The competence of the german war generals vs the demention of their leader has been well described in this film.
The loyalty of "brainwashed" nazis to their leader was impressively played by the german actors. To think that all that horror was real in 1940's, over 50 million people dead in the war, including murders of millions of jews in concentration camps. Captivating movie.
