Review of Down with Love (2003) by Cecilie H — 23 Jan 2009
A fun throwback to '60s Doris Dayand Rock Hudson pictures with more sexual innuendo. Whle the plot gets a bit clunky it never looses it's kitchy charm (in one hilarious scene Renee Zellweger manages to make fun of the film's contrived plot without feeling cynical).
The innuendo is quite funny, succeding where the Coen brothers' Intolerable Cruelty failed to bring a retro-charm to a modern sex comedy. McGregor and Zellweger are excellent together, but David Hyde Pierce steals many of his scenes as a shy, nervous magazine editor.
