Review of Doubt (2009) by Craig B — 18 Oct 2011
A film that draws a lot of its strength from its cast and script, so thankfully both are wholly on point. The interplay between Streep and Hoffman is superb, Adams has an undeniable charm and Davis makes good use of her very limited screen time.
The writing is top notch, with well written scenes and some sharp lines. The directing is uneven however, as it is trying to be cinematic but cannot escape the trappings of theater staging. The editing is a bit messy at times as well, with some cuts that just transition awkwardly between scenes.
A flawed film, but a great film to showcase ensemble work.
