Adapted from John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer Prize winning play, Streep plays a strict nun who seeks to find a priest (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) guilty of a sin he may or may not have committed. While she brings a surprising amount of humor to the film, Streep's scenes with Hoffman are riveting from beginning to end as their confrontation with one another crackle with dramatic intensity.
