Review of Double Indemnity (1973) by Jenny Z — 11 Jan 2009
A proclaimed classic of the film noir genre, Double Indemnity hits all the right marks: misguided male protagonist, femme fatale, and brilliant supporting male character. The fate of the two "lovers" seemed doomed from the start and there aren't any real big surprises.
Though there are some very intelligent realizations made throughout the film in terms of the murder plot-line that had me going a-ha! Robinson's Keyes character was the most interesting for me by far as I felt femme fatales have always been overdone (though it is a tenet of film noir) and it's a bit unrealistic how brash MacMurray's character comes off immediately.
