It's interesting how some classics were considered controversial for their time, but are tame by today's standards. How would those people react to a modern day controversial movie? But I digress.

I have only seen a handful of Billy Wilder's films, including Sunset Boulevard, Some Like It Hot and Sabrina, but I believe he was an excellent writer/director. I will probably have to check out Stalag 17 and The Apartment next.

It was bold to start Double Indemnity with the ending. Not only does the audience know that the anti-hero is guilty of the crime within the first few minutes, but we also know that he is probably going to get caught. What lead to the confession is told through flashback narration.

It took me a while to warm up to Double Indemnity because of the stylized acting and occasionally corny line of dialogue. Fortunately, the screenplay is mostly well written and intriguing.
