Review of Double Indemnity (1944) by Joel S — 10 Oct 2010
Practically a perfect film as well as the quintessential film noir. Barbara Stanwyck is devlishly sublime, and while Fred MacMurray lacks the depth of a Bogart, he's nonetheless very impressive as Walter Neff.
Also of particular note is is Edward G. Robinson's lengthy monologue as the investigator Barton Keys. Irrefutable proof that Billy Wilder was one of the greatest storytellers and directors of this century, this masterpiece still holds up and excites after more than sixty years.
