Review of Double Indemnity (1944) by Izzy G — 03 Mar 2009
"Suddenly it came over me that everything would go wrong. It sounds crazy, Keyes, but it's true, so help me. I couldn't hear my own footsteps. It was the walk of a dead man".
10/10.
Possibly the greatest film-noir. Unsympathetic, dark, pessimistic with despicable characters, Double Indemnity is a genre-defining accomplishment.
Double Indemnity communicates the depravity of greed, lust and avarice better than almost any other film noir. The characters are despicable and the tone is sombre, making it stand out from the crowd.
Double Indemnity is possibly the best film noir and one of the cinematic greats.
