Review of Double Impact (1991) by Ben F — 13 Jan 2010
During the first few scenes of this film, "Double Impact" seemed quite interesting and intriguing. But as soon as Van Damme actually came into the movie, this film became horrible.
Having a twin adventure in an action movie seems like quite the thrill ride, but it's really done horribly in Impact. The plot in this film is completely predictable, nothing special at all. It's been used dozens and dozens of times and it wasn't surprising.
Jean-Claude Van Damme doesn't usually give "oscar worthy" performances, but his acting in this film was just.....utter crap. I mean like I guess he had twice the lines because he played two characters but COME ON! The lines he gave were terrible, completely over the top, and in certain scenes it actually looked like he was struggling with his lines.
The stylized violence in this movie is amateur at best. We see nothing in this film that makes it special specifically pertaining to the action. What was really annoying about this movie was how the slow motion technique was used. I mean like if your going to use slow motion, you don't have to make the picture all choppy. It's completely unnecessary, and it's really a big distraction.
Overall? Yea this movie sucked. Sucked MAJOR. This is definitely one of Van Damme's worst movies. "Double Impact" is double the garbage. This film should have never been made.
