Review of Dororo (2007) by Shen S — 13 Dec 2007
In the movie Dororo, a man has to fight demons to retrieve his body parts taken from him at birth. However, he already has makeshift limbs, which are perfectly normal - or he wouldn't be able to fight. When he kills a demon with a body part of his, his makeshift limb disappears while the Â?originalÂ? limb returns.
Though a fantasy story, it is intriguing how he is attached to his Ã?Â?original limbs being part of his true selfÂ?. Is there a specific body part that is our true self? No - just like the combination of parts does not define our Â?true selfÂ? either - especially since each part changes. Even his originalÂ? parts change, while a true selfÂ? would not change. This body then, cannot be a true self.
So it is senseless to seek Â?true self out there or in here - in part or in whole. The real demons are the delusions that foster of the illusion of a lasting material self associated with the body. It's also interesting that his makeshift limbs are from other human bodies. We are after all, interconnected, sharing or exchanging parts or elements of the one same universe.
