Review of Dope (2015) by Private U — 02 Nov 2015
Well, sometimes I do get the occasional risk to watch a movie based on its ratings alone, even if the plot doesn't say much. That's what I did with this one, and completely wasted my time. Definitely not a 7.5 or anywhere close.
I do get the problems that a kid living in a ghetto faces, and I did get how all of this can be typical stereotypes that are far from the truth. I didn't need to watch a whole movie to get wind of this! I liked the fact that the kids where stuck in another decade (although some of the references made it really difficult for me to follow the humour) but apart from that, the movie sucked big time!
The leading actor was just a cool kid with no emotion, no real acting skills if you ask me, that offered nothing to the movie. The plot was predictable as hell and it was really disconnected and out of sync most of the time. The remaining cast members were also indifferent.
If you want to take my word for it, just don't spend the time to watch it. It's just an overrated movie, really region-specific that will not make any sense, unless it's watched by 16-17 year-old African Americans.
