Review of Dope (2015) by Hugo G — 07 Sep 2015
This movie was super fun, the music was amazing, and I love how fast it got into the drama. However, his monologue at the end really came out of nowhere. The movies theme was so simple: he goes to a party with drug dealers and they slip drugs into his bag when the cops raid the party.
Now he has to deal with getting rid of them and fighting off people who want them. Suddenly at the end, it becomes a white vs black person thing when there was only one white actor n the entire film. I was just super turned off by this and couldn't enjoy the movie anymore.
It's not like this was a race movie, it was a fun energetic youthful movie so why it was necessary to blame white people for his situation was confusing and out of no where.
