Review of Dope (2015) by Kevin R — 27 Mar 2016
You shouldn't settle for what's expected.
Malcolm is living in current times but dressing and living a 90s lifestyle. His friends follow similar lifestyles and are nerdy, trying to get in college, and they're perceived as outcasts because of their ambitions. One night they go to a party and are left with a bag containing molly. They need to sell it off to use the funds to get out of some trouble.
"All I want to do is a zoom, zoom, zoom and a boom, boom.".
Rick Famuyiwa, director of The Wood, Brown Sugar, Our Family Wedding, and the upcoming Confirmation, delivers Dope. The storyline for this picture is unique and has some fascinating and fun characters. The script is pretty good and the acting is awesome. The cast includes Rakim Mayers, Bruce Beatty, Rick Fox, Blake Anderson, Julian Brand, and Amin Joseph.
"May I take off my clothes?".
This was a recent addition to Netflix so I added it to my queue. I had seen some great reviews for this online and was excited to finally see it. I did like this and felt it was very well done. I thought the cast was well selected and the film comes together perfectly. I recommend seeing this once.
"You threw up on me.".
Grade: B.
