Review of Doomsday (2008) by Kingherod — 18 May 2008
I don't understand why critics have a problem with this movie. I would have thought that anyone who recognizes the movies that Doomsday openly borrows from (Mad Max II, Escape From New York, Aliens) could appreciate how deftly Marshall blends tired ingredients into an original cocktail.
A dystopian London and a post-apocalyptic Scotland; a felsh-eating virus; a Lara Croft lookalike; gimps; medieval knights; Mad Max punks; a Bentley Continental; kilts; comical gore and Frankie Goes To Hollywood.
A one-of-a-kind concoction, I'm sure you'll agree. It fits in snugly with Marshall's previous two features and it's exactly the kind of action movie I want the British film industry producing more of.
