Review of Don't Look Up (2021) by Whasze — 30 Dec 2021
If I could describe this film in 2 words it would be 'disappointing' and 'underwhelming'. With Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead, I was expecting this to be a serious take on the apocalypse genre, but instead, all we got was a film that tried to mix a serious plot and character into a generic 'satire' piece so generic it wouldn't look out of place in SNL.
It does absolutely nothing new and the writing in some parts is so surface level and is clearly trying to cater to Gen X humour. And the 'satire' is so in your face is like you don't have to think about what they are saying and they have clearly never heard of being subtle.
Also what was with that ending, especially the last scene. It was such a weird and unsatisfying way to end it.
At the very least, the 'serious characters' do a good job and the CGI looks nice.
In short, I think this would have been much better if it was more serious, but instead, we get the blandest satire ever with a few good actors thrown in.
