Review of Don't Look Up (2021) by Cinefraud — 27 Dec 2021
I give credit to those who criticize this movie for its smug and preachy portrayal of an "absurd" world's superficial obsession with itself, threatening its own demise. However, I think these critics give too much credit to humanity in the first place. The characters surrounding the protagonists are one-dimensional, predictable, and not quite as satisfying a watch as , say, a Network (1976)/ Chayefsky type film, but again, why is "preserving cinema" necessarily Adam McKay's objective?
Is that the point of movies? To just preserve this standard of "good writing", "good storytelling" etc.? Cause It's been done.
Adam McKay used the medium to say "Hey **** wake the **** up".
It's not rocket science.
