Review of Don't Look Up (2021) by Migdalorguy — 24 Dec 2021
I took some flak when I posted on FB recently reminding people that "Soylent Green" was set in the year 2022. Folks suggested that now, in the midst of this pandemic, is not the time to be adding to the general dismay, depression, and physical and emotional trauma of people.
I disagreed, saying that now is *precisely* the time to remind people of the looming environmental catastrophe, because in the current situation, it' s all too easy to forget about it and focus only on the immediate problems.
Well, this movie does exactly what I'm suggesting. Yes, it could have been a better film in the hands of another director, but McKay did it in his own usual style, winking all the way, and perhaps lesseing it's potential impact, but the point is, nevertheless, made.
So watch this, and take it's overly-telegraphed message to heart.
