Review of Don't Look Up (2021) by Thekiddy — 04 Jan 2022
David Sirota, one of the writers, is on Twitter suggesting that anyone who didn't like this film is basically a flat-earther. I'm not and I stopped watching about half of the way in. There were some things that I liked about it: Jennifer Lawrence's bangs were awesome.
The writing however was too broad and loud and the direction (the director co-wrote) was too broad, also. And didn't make sense. We have a character played by Lawrence who stays pretty cool and calm and out of nowhere loses it on national television.
Then a few scenes later, the nervous character played by Leonardo di Caprio, who has learned to stay calm and confident on camera loses it during an interview on national television essentially in exactly the same way.
I believe that the climate situation is urgent and requires world wide action. This self-indulgent film will win awards, I'm sure, as Hollywood loves to reward itself for its social commentary. But it wasn't a good movie.
