Review of Don't Look Now (1936) by Gareth M — 24 Jun 2009
High production values and a superb score make this much more than a horror film. Although in fairness its seriousness and focus on the cinema sometimes makes it a difficult watch.
The film doesn't give much away, yes you know what's going to happened at the start (and most ppl have seen the ending) but this doesn't distract from the film.
There is no comedy (ie comedy deaths to laugh at), and for the most part nothing silly (maybe the sex scene, with the jazz piano getting increasingly dramatic !!!), and the director gives nothing away. The girl does not reappear, the blind pschyic is she good, evil or just plain mad....it all adds to the overal creepyness. Everything has a cause and effect, and the truation of the final scenes have a real sense of drama and tention about them.
Its not a easy watch, but a rewarding one.
