Review of Don't Come Knocking (2005) by Debbie P — 08 Mar 2007
Because of the poor reviews I read in UK magazines, I wasn't expecting this film to impress me, I thought it could be something a bit too shallow, like the disappointing Broken Flowers of Jim Jarmusch (but when reflecting upon it you realize that it's Jim Jarmusch that maybe has always been shallow) but nothing like that happens in Don't Come Knocking.
It is a film with really serious intentions; the screenplay by Sam Shepard is one that develops itself in great credibility with emotions, like we had already seen in Paris, Texas. And now Sam Shepard is actually in front of the camera for Wim Wenders, together with his long time partner Jessica Lange, and there are also great performances by the other actors, specially the boy who plays the newly found son, Gabriel Mann(which also sings nicely) the film really feels like a subtle but special piece of work, made by really intimate friends.
