Review of Don't Breathe (2016) by Nell A — 07 Nov 2016
I would sooner call this a thriller than a horror. Yes the suspense is strong, and I hear comparisons to movies like Panic Room, but I just didn't see it. There weren't enough twists or turns, and I didn't end up caring about the characters enough, to really even enjoy finishing this movie.
There are no good guys, and everybody's motivations are made really clear, but there were so many moments where situations could have been avoided that I lost all empathy for the characters - and really all it is is the same situation, the same house, almost-going-wrong for 1.
5 hours. That just didn't pull me in at all. You know the situation you're in, you know the odds, well and truly by now, and still choose not to call the police? Well, good luck holding your breath.
I did not enjoy this, even though I can see the movie is well made. I was glad when it was over.
