Review of Don't Breathe (2016) by Blacksun — 18 Dec 2016
Member horror movies? Yeah I member! (Southpark) In other words, what we've got here is just all cliche here with no real substance. No character development starts us off with not caring about anyone in the film.
The "twist" is that the villain is blind. I do admit, exploring the concept is interesting, but in the end it felt more like a flimsy gimmick. I found it pretty hard to be afraid of the blind man, even when he had a gun.
And I guess it's tradition, but the false ending after false ending really wore on me as well. The movie just isn't what some reviewers think it is. I feel like there's this skewing of perspective in the perception of movies these days.
It's like no-one knows what a good movie is anymore. And if anything simply "doesn't suck" then it's given top scores. Our hyperbolic knee-jerk society can't seem to think critically about anything.
Or forgets too quickly. Anyway, skip it. Go watch The Witch or something.
